(13.2% natural alcohol, but with a lower pH than the Fixin Les Crais and Gevrey-Chambertin Clos des Chézeaux): Healthy dark red. A bit medicinal on the nose in a positive way, offering scents of cassis, black cherry and licorice. Quite penetrating on the palate, even a bit youthfully tough, finishing with more obvious tannins. Amélie Berthaut noted that she prefers the balance of the Gevrey-Chambertin Clos des Chézeaux, but this energetic wine should offer good aging potential. Incidentally, Berthaut did fewer pigeages in 2015 than in 2017 owing to the smaller, thicker-skinned grapes in the earlier vintage.

Heady chestnut stew nose with some tannin on the end. Not as charming as the other wines, but well made. (JR)
(tasted from cuve ; from Aux Réas and Au-Dessus de la Rivière, vinified together): Full ruby-red. Tight, dark aromas of blackberry, blueberry, licorice and mint. A step up in energy from the Gevrey Clos des Chézeaux, but a bit aggressively black and minty in character. Strong acidity and mineral spine are accentuated by some obvious SO2. This rather serious, salty village wine is tough going today.
The 2015 Vosne-Romanée Villages came from tank and was blended in November 2016, and it will stay in tank for a few month until bottling next spring. It has a clean and precise bouquet with tightly-wound black cherry, raspberry and hints of fresh fig lending a soupçon of exoticism. The palate is clean and fresh on the entry. There are plenty of fresh morello cherry and cassis notes in situ, a citric thread of acidity and a vivid, lively finish that lingers long in the mouth. Very fine.
