In Mazoyères but they call this Charmes because they have a Mazoyères in the domaine range. The fruit is from their neighbour, who is also organic. Dark cherry red with a purple rim. Gorgeously fragrant. Knee-deep in ripe red fruit. So sweet on the nose and also sweet on the palate. Rich, dense and the perfume still escapes. Generous but so fresh and dense and really complete. Succulent, chewy and very long. (JH)

(from Mazoyères): Dark red-ruby. Highly perfumed aromas of purple fruits, menthol and flowers. Tactile and rich but also fine-grained and elegant, conveying serious intensity and a light touch to its dark berry, licorice and violet flavors. A juicy, penetrating wine with noteworthy refinement for Mazoyères. Tight on the back end but already displays captivating rising length. Superb Gevrey intensity here--and perhaps a bit riper than the domaine Mazoyères bottled under the Maume by Domaine Tawse label, which comes off as cooler in the early going.

The 2016 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has lovely black fruit on the nose, touches of sous bois and morels coming through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, sappy and juicy in the mouth with plenty of red cherry and orange pith notes toward the grippy finish. One of the best from Marchand-Tawse in 2016.
