Bright red-ruby. At once more complex and more precise on the nose than the Roncière, offering aromas of blackberry, loganberry, elderberry, violet and dusty stone but none of the herbal or menthol notes this vineyard often displays. Sweet, ripe and pliant; fuller-bodied than the Roncière but given shape by harmonious acidity. Finishes with horizontal, fine-grained tannins and excellent persistence. A lovely showing today.

The 2016 Nuits St Georges 1er Cru les Pruliers has the most introverted bouquet (this despite jabbering with Etienne Grivot about his family history to allow the wine time to open in the glass!). Nevertheless, the palate is very well balanced with filigree tannin. There is a lovely saline note here, very precise and energetic with a slight chalkiness to the texture on the finish. I suspect that it will flesh out more once in bottle.
Vineyard lies south of town. Very distinctive. Bright garnet. Lots of energy. Ripe red-fruit flavours. Round and flattering. Lots of sweetness. Gets the saliva flowing. Dry end but very vibrant. (JR)

A benchmark name in Vosne-Romanée, Domaine Jean Grivot is one of Burgundy’s most respected estates. They have an impressive array of vineyards, including plots in Grand Cru Clos de Vougeot, Echezeaux and Richebourg.
