Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2026-2050, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Apr 2019

Tasted from bottle, the 2016 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Porêts-Saint-Georges is one of Faiveley's most brooding and reserved wines this year, unfurling in the glass with notes of earthy black cherries, cassis, dark chocolate, grilled game bird and rich spices. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with a tight-knit core, an abundance of fine but firm structuring tannins and a long, sapid finish. If opened today, this Nuits is better on day two or three, and while it's excellent, it will demand more patience than pretty much any other cuvée in the range.

(the crop was reduced 30% by frost): Bright ruby-red. A touch of reduction to the aromas of black raspberry and menthol. A step up in richness and fullness from the foregoing Nuits-Saint-Georges examples, conveying sexy sweetness to its flavors of dark cherry and dark chocolate complicated by a hint of white fruits. In a sweeter, generous style in the context of the vintage, with the wine's big dusty tannins nicely supported by its relatively full body.

Cask sample. Mid crimson. Quite dark and closed at the moment. Nicely peppery and dusty on the nose. Juicy, succulent and lightish on the palate but in balance – the acidity is more obvious here than in most tasted so far. (JH)
