(vinified with 20% whole clusters; this wine was racked into tank in August to finish its malolactic fermentation, then back into barrels): Healthy bright red. Tangy dark raspberry, spices, chocolate and a whiff of menthol on the alluring nose. Plush, silky and fine-grained, conveying a slightly medicinal aspect but full ripeness to its dark fruit and floral flavors. Finishes with substantial tongue-dusting tannins and lovely length. Very easy to taste today.
Shy nose but excellent ripeness and a good structure on the palate. The crisp acidity drives the long finish, which is quite salty. The late malolactic fermentation has thrown this wine back in development and closed down the nose. Excellent fruit and potential. Better from 2020.
