Disgorged in April 2017, Cédric Bouchard’s late release of the 2010 Blanc de Noirs Côte de Béchalin has aged gracefully, showing none of the oxidative traits that frequently mark Champagnes of comparable post-disgorgement age. It opens with a deep bouquet of orange, ripe pear and peach mingling with cherry and apricot. On the palate, it’s full-bodied, ample and enveloping, with a rich core of fruit, notable concentration and structuring extract, lively acidity and a long, sapid finish. It’s another superb wine from Bouchard, transcending the vintage reputation and any limits imposed upon it. Côte de Béchalin derives from a southwest-facing site planted with Pinot Noir in 1981 on the upper slopes of Celles-sur-Ource. Following an exchange of vines, the 2014 vintage marks the final rendition of Côte de Béchalin.

Officially non-vintaged but based on 2010, the NV Blanc de Noirs "Côte de Béchalin" (2010) is from a tiny but sunny, southwest-facing limestone plot (0.46 hectares) and was aged on the second lees for seven years. It is very clear and precise on the nose but still very young, with notes of sweet cherries. Round, very complex, stunningly precise and fresh on the palate, this Pinot Noir reveals great finesse and elegance and develops a tremendously persistent, tensioned finish. The Côte de Béchalin is even finer than the Val Vilaine! No more than 1,500 bottles are produced. Tasted April 2018.

The 2010 Roses de Jeanne Blanc de Noirs Côte de Béchalin is terrific. Finely cut and lifted, the 2010 is full of character. Mirabelle, kirsch, hard candy and sweet floral notes give the wine its exotic personality. As is often the case, the Côte de Béchalin is a wine of crystalline purity and tension. The 2010 is a bit quirky, but it is also delicious. Disgorged in April 2017 with no dosage.
