Note di degustazione
The product of an extremely warm harvest, the 2009 Viñedo Chadwick is squarely in a secondary phase. It opens with a mossy, spice-driven nose with a touch of turned earth, dried tobacco, charred cedar and cracked leather. The palate is quintessential Chadwick, with its lavish yet composed, balanced richness. It ends with a quietly powerful, creamy finish framed by chocolate-tinged, dusty tannins. While I preferred the finish on the more expansive 2010, this is drinking very well and should do so for at least another decade. This is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged entirely in new oak.

Sandalwood, orange peel, spiced raspberry fruits, with balasamic character alongside creamy smoked caramel and pomegranate, this is a fascinating example of a well aged Vinedo Chadwick from a warm vintage. Ripe, welcoming tannins, this is rich and powerful, with the black pepper and turmeric spice that is very much a signature of Maipo. Extremely different in character from a 15 year old European Cabernet, full of generous Maipo signature, and this is reaching its plateau for drinking, although there is still tension in the wine and it is at a lovely moment to open and share. 95% new oak. Francisco Baettig winemaker since the inaugural vintage in 1999, Edouardo Chadwick owner.
From what was a warm year across Chile, Maipo Alto included, the 2009 Viñedo Chadwick is a pure, very ripe Cabernet Sauvignon. An intense nose of herbs and dried fig, blackberry jam and hints of licorice. On the palate, it has a warm richness with Puente Alto’s refined tannins, which deliver luxury and balance. It won’t develop much more in spite of the lively lick of flavor at the end.
