Made only in magnums, the 2014 Alto Adige Pinot Bianco Edition kunst.stück (1.5 liters) flows from the bottle with bright luminosity and silky intensity. This is a gorgeous expression of Pinot Bianco from a winery that has a proven track record with the grape. In fact, Pinot Bianco from Alto Adige is one of my absolute favorite categories of wines, and tasting this sample is an important reminder of why I feel this way. The 2014 vintage was difficult, and the summer heat came very late toward the end of the growing season. This wine tastes slightly more astringent and crisp as a result. But the varietal aromas push forward regardless, with honey, pear and Golden Delicious apple. This special wine ages on the lees for one year before filtration. Its texture is beautifully polished and fine as a result. It offers the natural heft to pair with shellfish in butter or cream sauce. The finish reveals an elegant note of sweet honey and fine mineral. I tasted bottle 854 of 2,014 units produced. This wine is built to last and will age for ten years or probably longer. Artist Claudio Paternoster designed the label artwork that resembles geological strata.<br><br>This estate has produced a small miracle with its 2014 Alto Adige Pinot Bianco Edition kunst.stück. Made in limited magnums, this beautiful wine promises to age steadily throughout the next decade or more. Cantina Kaltern (Caldaro) officially merged with Erste+Neue in December 2016. The two brands will maintain their separate identities, although the lineup of respective products will be slightly modified.
