The 2011 Aglianico del Vulture Il Sigillo displays a fresh bouquet of pine shavings, dried roses and complementary black cherries. A pretty inner sweetness contrasts tart red and black fruits, while cool-toned acidity maintains lovely energy. Sour berry gives way to an incredibly long mocha and blood orange resonance, all framed by silky tannins.

This is one of the most important wines made south of Campania and north of Etna today. The 2011 Aglianico del Vulture Il Sigillo flaunts its Lucano pride with deep concentration and super dark fruit and spice that contrast each other with harmony. Those characteristic mineral notes of volcanic ash and crushed granite peg this wine to an unmistakable sense of place. The finish is rich and velvety and Il Sigillo should only improve with time. Some 20,000 bottles were produced.
