The 2013 Rubicon is a blend of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc plus minor addition from other classic varieties. It offers baked cherry, raspberry coulis and sage/oregano scents on the nose that is powerful, if missing a little finesse. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly bitter tannin: cola-tinged dark berry fruit with a sweet but rather old-fashioned finish that feels predictable juxtaposed against some of Stellenbosch's more progressive red blends.
