Punteggio 95/100 · Da bere 2025-2050, Audrey Frick, jebdunnuck.com, Dec 2025

The 38th edition, the NV Champagne Blanc De Blancs 38 pours a bright yellow/platinum color and is highly toned initially. However, its underlying drive, reminiscent of Ambonnay power, is what gives this wine its character. It has notes of wet stones, lemon oil, fresh Meyer lemon, and white pineapple. It’s so much fun to taste, and it's electrifying – the mousse enhances the electricity and energy of the wine yet has fabulous big energy without being austere. It’s a beam of bright light, and it has length. Drink 2025-2050. The Rodez family first set down roots in Champagne in 1757, and while they have not always been winemakers, they have always respected the land and the vines. They bottle roughly 55,000 bottles every year.

Ambonnay. Bottled spring 2014. 95% fermented in oak and 95% no malo. Contains five or six different vintages. Dosage 3.5 g/l. Rather light, inexpressive nose. Delicate, ‘sharp’ Chardonnay on the palate but this somehow lacks a bit of conviction and focus. The acidity is very notable and certainly at the moment it’s a bit too austere for me. (JR)

Offering up aromas of smoky green orchard fruit, hazelnuts and waxy citrus that are delicately framed by their time in barrel, the latest rendition of Rodez's NV Brut Blanc de Blancs is a medium to full-bodied, broad and fleshy wine with a bright spine of acidity, a frothy mousse and a long, vinous and subtly oak-inflected finish. Unsurprisingly, its Ambonnay origins and Rodez's style mark it just as much as its cépage.
