The 2016 Pontet Labrie is the name for "Le Pontet" that I referred to in my 2015 report last year. Proprietor Jonathan Maltus had to change the name after some properties with titular similarities complained. This is a blend of 88% Merlot and 12% Cabernet Franc cropped at 32 hectoliters per hectare on 10 and 14 October, respectively, and matured in 80% new oak. It has a ripe crème de cassis and blueberry-scented bouquet with flecks of dark chocolate. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, quite lively and with a sorbet-like freshness towards the finish. I was impressed by the 2015 last year, and this is a sterling follow-up.
