Punteggio 95/100 · Da bere 2024-2035, Josh Raynolds, Mar 2019

Deep ruby. Powerful black/blue fruit, incense, Indian spice and vanilla aromas on the expressive nose, with a smoky mineral quality adding urgency. Offers sweet, densely packed boysenberry, cherry cola and spicecake flavors that spread out steadily on the palate, picking up an exotic hint of star anise and a touch of licorice on the back half. Lush, broad and seamless in character, finishing with superb energy, sharp delineation and smooth, even tannins that add structure and subtle grip.

The single-vineyard 2014 Las Lamas follows the same path as the rest of the 2014s: very good freshness and precision, floral and perfumed, elegant and nuanced, with a terribly balanced palate and a little less body than the 2015 but more approachable with its gentle character. This bottling has been on fire since 2012, when they realized they needed slightly higher yields than they had in the past, and it means the ripeness has been more perfect since then. 3,090 bottles. It was bottled in March 2016.

Mencía. 1.5-ha vineyard planted at 670-730 m elevation. Very intense nose and great depth, richness and smoothness. Seems well worth twice the price of the Villa de Corullón. Very serious wine! (JR)
