Punteggio 89/100 · Da bere 2018-2023, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Feb 2018

The 2015 Lune d'Argent is a pretty, succulent wine to drink now and over the next few years. The radiance of the year amps up the Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc flavors nicely. Citrus peel and floral notes add lift to this very pretty, nuanced white from Clos des Lunes, Olivier Bernard's dry white wine project in Sauternes. Tasted two times.

Composed of 70% Sémillon and 30% Sauvignon Blanc, the 2015 Lune d'Argent has a lovely fresh lemons, grapefruit and green apples-scented nose with a touch of chalk dust. The medium-bodied palate is fresh, clean and racy with a chalky finish.

More Sauvignon Blanc dominated, the 2015 Clos des Lunes Lune d'Argent Blanc is another killer white from this estate. It too is a forward, intense, vibrant 2015 that has loads of fat and texture, full body, good freshness, and exotic notes of caramelized citrus/lime, peach, honeysuckle and tropical fruits. Like the Clos des Lunes Blanc, it can be drunk over the coming 4-5 years or cellared for longer. Focusing on white wines, this is a new project of Olivier Bernard of Domaine de Chevalier, who in 2012 purchased a 27-hectare vineyard. By 2015 he had grown the estate to 73 hectares planted to 70% Sémillon and 30% Sauvignon Blanc. Both whites I tasted were outstanding and I suspect the best is still yet to come.

Bought in August 2011 by the Bernard family of Dom de Chevalier, Clos des Lunes was formerly known as Ch Haut Caplane and belonged to Castel. 70% Sémillon, 30% Sauvignon Blanc. Rich nose reminds me of a California wine. Off dry and sleek but somehow lacks heart and focus. Rather astringent finish. (JR)
