Punteggio 97/100 · Da bere 2022-2035, Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, Dec 2017

The 2015 Cornas Pur Noir rivals Clape’s Cornas for wine of the vintage from that appellation. Extraordinarily rich and complex, it offers hints of grilled red plums, roasted meat and mocha, enormous concentration and masses of ripe tannins. Yet despite the power, there’s a sense of elegance to this, and the dark fruit flavors come through on the lengthy finish. It’s a terrific effort and relatively affordable if you can find it. The price at the caveau when I visited was 80 euros.

Youthful purple. Intensely perfumed aromas of cassis, blackberry liqueur, olive paste and floral pastilles, plus a smoky mineral topnote that adds vivacity. Plush and appealingly sweet on the palate, offering concentrated dark berry liqueur and violet candy flavors and an enlivening jolt of black pepper. Finishes extremely long and minerally, delivering excellent focus and energy and dusty tannins that add framework and grip.

Opaque ruby. Assertive blackberry, licorice, olive and incense scents take on a subtle floral quality with aeration. Sappy and broad on the palate, offering potent dark fruit liqueur and floral pastille flavors and a hint of peppery spices. Closes with repeating licorice and dark berry character, mounting tannins and excellent persistence.

One of the wines of the vintage is certainly the 2015 Cornas Pur Noir. In a similar style to the Vin Noir, yet with a touch more plushness and texture, this killer wine offers layers of black raspberries, blueberries, crushed rocks, crushed violets and licorice in its profound, pure and incredibly concentrated, yet seamless personality.

An estate that has come on like gangbusters over the past decade is Stephane Robert’s Domaine du Tunnel, and today they’re up there with the crème de la crème of the appellation. He's made beautiful wines in both 2014 and 2015. Dec 2016, www.robertparker.com
