The 2015 Marsannay Grasses Têtes, from a parcel of 60 year-old vines, appears to be showing some of the effects of its racking about two weeks ago. Bright red-toned fruit and considerable aromatic presence are two of the signatures. The 100% whole clusters are evident, but also nicely balanced for a wine that is clearly not in the best condition to be evaluated.

Wonderful beefy flavour as well as sweet red fruit, and a superb stemmy freshness too. This has got loads going on at the price. Certainly as good as numerous Côte de Nuits appellations that charge far more! (RH)
The Marsannay les Grasses Tetes, comes from degenerated 50-year-old vines and contains 100% whole bunch fruit. It is more backward than the Marsannay les Longeroies and the fruit veers more towards black than red, with subtle woodland and mulch-like scents just "simmering" underneath. The palate is gentle and rounded on the entry. There is great depth here, wonderful balance and impressive structure towards the masculine, tobacco-tinged finish. This might be the standout wine from Sylvain Pataille this year.
