Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2021-2029, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2017

Bright, dark red. Pungent minerality gives punch to the black raspberry aroma. Urgent, precise wine with excellent energy and lift. Can't match the 2015 for density but there's no shortage of material here--not to mention impeccable balance. Finishes with ripe, firm tannins and excellent rising length. This juicy, spicy wine should be superb. For a wine with so much inner-mouth tension this is already quite demonstrative.

(two barrels, one new; from a 1927 planting; from vines in a sunny spot that are always the first to be harvested):Bright, dark red. Musky, brooding nose is less expressive than that of the Rouges du Dessus; Tremblay noted that this wine has been reduced since the outset. Then fat and sweet in the mouth, showing a liqueur-like quality to its flavors of purple fruits and spices. In a distinctly riper, broader and more tactile style than the Rouges du Dessus but not as fine. Finishes classically dry, tannic and strong. This is demonstrative but the Rouges du Dessus really cleanses the palate.

The 2014 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru les Beaumonts, matured in 50% new oak, has quite a high-toned, sorbet-like bouquet - feisty at the moment - a bouquet that needs to calm down by the time of bottling. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chalky tannin, cohesive in the mouth and tending towards a more structured, almost Malconsorts-like finish. I would just like to see a little more volume come through on the finish.

90-year-old vines. Her sunniest climat. She picks a little early to keep the freshness in. Sumptuous with masses of pungent minerality. Pure pleasure but a bit sweeter than most. Exuberant. (JR)
