The 2016 d’Aurilhac has a rather dour bouquet that needs more vivacity and vigour. It feels a little leaden compared to its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, a fine line of acidity, smooth in texture with an attractive finish. Like the 2016 Arnauld, if the aromatics can improve, it will merit a higher score. Tasted at the Cru Bourgeois tasting in London.

49% Merlot, 46% Cabernet Sauvginon, 2.5% Petit Verdot, 2.5% Cabernet Franc. Slight drainage notes on the nose and palate. Raw fruit, with good technical balance but a certain crudeness to the flavour profile. For the price, this is perhaps forgiveable – although it is up against stiff competition from other countries.
