Slightly deeper colored and brought up in 70% new oak, the 2016 La Gargone (60% Merlot, 20% Malbec, 18% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon) offers more blue and black fruits, with subtle chocolate and scorched earth aromatics. It’s another ripe, powerful yet pure and beautifully balanced effort from this estate that’s well worth seeking out.

Earthy and herbal with lots of blackberries and a hint of violets from the malbec. Ripe on the palate with quite a slug of powdery tannins, making a bold statement and packing quite a punch at the finish. A blend of 60 per cent merlot, 20 per cent malbec, 18 per cent cabernet franc and two per cent cabernet sauvignon.
The 2016 La Gargone is another outrageously beautiful wine from Domaine du Bouscat and my personal favorite among the three offerings. Dark cherry, plum, lavender, spice, mint and a kiss of new French oak all run through this dense, powerful Bordeaux Supérieur.
Produced from a single south-facing, hillside vineyard of just 3.3 hectares situated just west of the Fronsac appellation and composed of 60% Merlot, 20% Malbec, 18% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon, the medium to deep garnet-purple colored 2016 La Gargone gives up notes of crushed black cherries, preserved plums and baking spices with potpourri and violets hints. The palate is full-bodied, firm and chewy with loads of spicy black fruit and a perfumed finish. Production is about 700 cases.
