Punteggio 93/100 · Da bere 2019-2027, Jeb Dunnuck, Feb 2019

I loved both these wines, which come from the team at Château Lafleur. Starting with the white, the 2016 Château Grand Village Blanc (two-thirds Sauvignon and one-third Sémillon) is a glorious white that has racy minerality as well as loads of grapefruit, citrus pith, and lime aromas and flavors. Showing a Burgundian-like reductive character, medium body, and beautiful balance, drink it any time over the coming 7-8 years.

The 2016 Grand Village Blanc has a very well defined, almost Burgundian bouquet of subtle tropical fruit, honeysuckle and a touch of vanilla from the oak (50% new). The palate is well balanced and saline in the mouth, displaying a fine line of acidity and just the right amount of bitterness on the finish. Very promising.

This has a lot of lemon-peel, pear-drop and cooked-apple character. Full-bodied, dense and flavorful. Aniseed and fennel-seed aftertaste. A little oily. Drink now or hold.

The 2016 Grand Village Blanc has gained terrific freshness in élevage and is now a far more convincing wine than it was from barrel. Green apple, lemon peel and white flowers all convey an impression of energy, but the 2016 has quite a bit of textural resonance as well.
