The 2016 Joanin Bécot has an agreeable blackberry and cedar bouquet with hints of blue fruit and Christmas cake. The palate is medium-bodied with juicy ripe tannins, graphite-tinged black fruit and a slightly dry but weighty finish. It needs a couple of years to meld together, but I appreciate the balance of this Côtes de Castillon.

Tasted blind. Intensely ripe black fruits. Lots of fruit and some sweet oak on the end. Sufficient acidity which rather sticks out at present but there is good stuffing. (JR)
The 2016 Château Joanin Bécot (80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc aged in 65% new oak) is a rounded, nicely textured wine that stays in the classic style of the vintage. Black cherries, white flowers, spice, and hints of limestone-like minerality all flow to a medium-bodied, silky, elegant 2016 that has loads to love. As usual, it’s impeccably made and represents a good value. Drink it over the coming decade or so.
The 2016 Joanin-Bécot has a rich bouquet of mainly red berry fruit and hints of date and Christmas cake; mocha notes emerge with time. The palate is powerful and quite oaky, showing some warmth of alcohol toward the finish. Quite modern and precocious - a Castillon that will need to be partnered with a good hearty steak. Fine.
