Based on equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Franc, from vines just across the road from Pavie (down on the lower plain), the 2016 Clos Badon has a pretty, perfumed, elegant style as well as a great nose of currants, camphor, dried soil, and spice box. Drink this beautifully balanced, medium-bodied, seamless Saint-Emilion any time over the coming 10-15 years.
The 2016 Clos Badon-Thunevin has a ripe, quite decadent bouquet at first, although it gains more delineation in the glass, offering copious black cherry and wild strawberry scents infused with violet. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and a fine bead of acidity, and quite harmonious toward the finish. A touch of tobacco lingers on the aftertaste. Recommended.
This is ripe and very open with chewy and juicy tannins and a long, flavorful finish. Full body. Savory. Drink after 2023.
