The 2016 Trotanoy has a brilliant bouquet with mineral-rich black fruit, crushed stone and light crushed violet scents. Wonderful focus. The palate is very well balanced with firm grip, quite powerful yet completely controlled. There is just a hint of salted liquorice that comes through on the finish. Magnificent. Tasted at Bordeaux Index's Ten Year On tasting.

A muscular wine that is in the Petrus mould in terms of its character and the time that it is going to need to fully reveal itself, this is merlot and clay at its height, such a brilliant wine, smoky undertones and structure, will power through the decades, bgreat great stuff, 50% new oak.
Tar, smoke, spice, dark chocolate and charcoal aromas. The palate is powerful yet driven by freshness, with chalky tannins that shape and support the wine rather than dominate it. Everything feels in balance, the structure and fruit working together in a harmonious, composed whole, giving the wine presence and poise. Drink or hold. 10 Years On retrospective.
The 2016 Trotanoy offers black cherry, raspberry and rose petal scents on the nose, developing more red fruit and touches of brown spice. This is a mercurial bouquet, very involving, and I wish I could have spent longer with it! The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a fine bead of acidity, tightening up toward a structured finish that is clearly built for long-term cellaring. Good potential, but this needs serious time. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

Château Trotanoy was one of the first recognised Premier Cru sites on the Pomerol plateau, with records dating back to the late 1700s. Even back in the nineteenth century it was seen as the best site in Pomerol second only to Vieux Château Certan.
