Pale yellow, hints of green, good acidity, more Sauvignon Blanc character than in most vintages of this wine, still has the signature grilled oak, creamy citrus and rich, round depths. 40% new oak with lees stirring. Harvest September 4 to 29.

The 2016 Bouscaut Blanc was showing a bit of reduction on the nose that occluded some terroir expression. Indeed, there is a trait of Burgundy here, in the touches of lemon curd and beeswax. The palate displays a pleasant bitter lemon entry, fine acidity, a very waxy texture and a slightly smudged finish. It does improve in the glass, however, and attains spiciness and pepperiness. The 2016 Château Bouscaut Blanc shows the vintage’s elegant, clean, classic style. Beautiful notes of citrus and subtle minerality all flow to a medium-bodied white that has a rounded, supple texture, good balance, and a clean finish. It’s not going to make old bones but certainly will keep for 2-4 years.

Under the Lurton family, this property has seen extensive work in the vineyard and winery, and an associated uptick in quality. The vines stretch across 42 hectares, with Merlot dominating plantings for the reds.
