The 2016 Le Cygne, the white Bordeaux from Château Fonréaud, has a lovely white peach and nectarine scented bouquet, just a hint of crème fraiche in the background. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, veins of orange pith and spice leading to a harmonious, crisp finish. Excellent. Tasted at the Oenoconseil tasting room in Bordeaux.

The Le Cygne de Fonreaud 2016 Blanc has a tempting bouquet with nectarine and custard crème infusing the citrus fruit. Is there a little too much oak here? You know what—I don't really care. The palate is fresh and vibrant with subtle tropical notes interwoven: nectarine, pineapple and a touch of guava. It is certainly a commercial white Listrac but the bottom line is that it is thoroughly enjoyable and well crafted.

Situated at the highest point in the Médoc (at a huge 43 metres above sea-level), this estate is thought to be named after a spring on the site, from which Henry II supposedly drank (a “royal fountain”).
