Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2026-2042, Neal Martin, Apr 2026

The 2016 La Gaffelière has an intense nose with blackberry, cedar and tobacco scents, actually quite Left Bank in style, fresh with an underlying marine influence. The palate is medium-bodied with smooth tannins. Very fine acidity and impressive purity of fruit, lightly spiced, understated but how can you resist its caressing finish. Gorgeous. Tasted at Bordeaux Index's Ten-Year-On tasting.

Cherries, mushrooms and earth on the nose. The palate is vibrant and medium- to full-bodied, with elegant and ethereal dark fruit framed by focused tannins and a precise finish. 70% merlot and 30% cabernet franc. This is still youthful but starting to mellow. Drink or hold. 10 Years On retrospective.

70% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc. Still a youthful, crimson hue. Aromatically less precise with briary, dark-fruit notes but the palate is poised and harmonious. Lighter hand on the tiller compared with 2014 and 2015, the tannins and fruit more refined and there’s plenty of freshness, too. Clean and long with drive on the finish. (JL)
