The 2012 Cornas Vin Noir is certainly in its prime drink window and is showing a touch maturity in its new leather, bacon fat, flower, and darker berry fruits. Medium to full-bodied, it has a round, mouth-filling texture, silky tannins, and a great finish. It will evolve for another decade, but there’s no need to delay gratification.

A smaller production release that comes from three separate parcels and 100-year-old vines, the 2012 Cornas Vin Noir is aged all in older barrels. Inky purple/black in color, it exhibits awesome notes of cassis, burning embers, saddle leather and that powdered rock-like minerality that you only find in wines from granite soils. Full-bodied, voluptuously textured and even decadent, yet still pure, focused and precise, this blockbuster Cornas will have two decades of longevity.
Inky purple. Highly fragrant bouquet evokes dark berry liqueur, violet and olive, complicated by woodsmoke and black pepper nuances. Sappy, sweet and expansive, offering intense blackberry and bitter cherry flavors underscored by a smoky mineral nuance. Chewy tannins give shape to the finish, which leaves sexy floral pastille and allspice notes behind. These vines, which Robert rents from the Juge family, are now over a century old.
