Note di degustazione
Brilliant violet color. Powerful cassis, cherry liqueur, licorice and cured tobacco aromas are complicated by a suave floral nuance and a hint of cracked pepper. Rich but vibrant on the palate, showing excellent focus and spicy thrust to its dark berry, candied licorice and spicecake flavors. Smoothly balances richness and finesse and betrays no rough edges. Finishes on a smoky note, with strong tenacity, lingering floral and licorice character and mounting tannins.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2014 Shiraz Kalimna Bin 28 is open for business with a gorgeous nose yielding tons of spice box and berry preserves notes, plus suggestions of licorice and chocolate box. It is soft and supple on entry in the mouth with rounded tannins, rich fruit and a long, spicy finish.
First made in 1959, Bin 28 is named after the famous Barossa Valley Kalimna Vineyard purchased by Penfolds in 1945 and from which the wine was originally sourced. Today, it is a multi-region, multi-vineyard wine made in considerable quantity. Fruit from Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Langhorne Creek, Wrattonbully, Port Lincoln and Clare Valley. Generally picked early March. Acidity 6.4 g/l, pH 3.59. No new oak; 12 months in seasoned American oak hogsheads. Very dark blackish purple. Very ripe and round – even a little porty. Ocker wine! If you like ’em big, go for this one. (JR)
