2014 Pouilly Fuisse Aux Vignes Dessus

The 2014 Pouilly-Fuissé Aux Vignes Dessus has a slightly more resinous, perhaps earthier bouquet than the tropical-tinged 2014 Les Bélemnites, although it sports just as much delineation and vigor. The palate is fresh and vibrant with bitter lemon and hints of walnut on the entry, very good weight in the mouth and impressive complexity--as well as what you might call "drive" on the finish. I'm impressed.

(Morat referred to this south/southeast-facing clay-rich site as "a traditional lieu-dit "; most of these vines are around 35 years of age): Pale, bright yellow. Very expressive, sweet nose offers scents of tangy orange zest, flowers and pastry shell. With lovely floral intensity and power from the clay soil, this Pouilly-Fuissé calls for a bit of patience. The first time this fruit was vinified separately was 2009.
