The 2014 Petit Figeac was showing quite deep in color. The nose was broody at first, opening with dark berry fruit interlaced with undergrowth and scents of stewed black tea. The palate is medium-bodied with quite firm tannin. It is nicely balanced, but not a complex Deuxième Vin and it seems a little rustic compared to the Grand Vin that has more "sheen" compared to older vintages. I appreciate the salinity on the aftertaste, but the bottom line is this Petit Figeac will be best consumed over the next three or four years.

The 2014 Petit-Figeac is laced with the essence of sweet dark cherry, plum, tobacco, mint, licorice and leather. Pliant, supple and expressive, it is a highly appealing second wine. This is just as impressive in bottle as it was from barrel.
One third of the crop went into this wine. Labelled La Grangeneuve de Figeac until 2012. 50% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, 44% Cabernet Sauvignon. 35% new oak. Very dark – especially in comparison to Cheval Blanc just tasted. Rather juicy and toasty and friendly. The aim is to make something to drink between two and eight years. The 2014 Petit-Figeac is wonderfully fleshy and supple. Minty, floral aromatics meld into a core of dark fruit in the 2014 Petit-Figeac. A very serious second wine the Petit-Figeac is super-expressive today, with a surprising level of depth and textural resonance. Sweet floral and spice notes reappear on the open, resonant finish. This is a gorgeous second wine with tons of near and medium-term appeal. If there is any critique to be made of the Petit-Figeac it is that it may be too serious of a second wine. The blend is 50% Merlot, 44% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Cabernet Franc.

Sitting on the border with Pomerol, Ch. Figeac is a distinguished Saint-Emilion estate that produces some of the region's most sought-after wines. As of 2022, it is officially classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé A, one of the appellation's top estates along with Ch. Pavie.
