Punteggio 97/100 · Da bere 2023-2055, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Apr 2018

Cécile Tremblay's 2015 Echézeaux du Dessus Grand Cru is glorious and ranks as one of her greatest hits to date, soaring from the glass with a lavish bouquet of raspberries, black cherries, dark chocolate, spice, espresso roast and wood smoke, framed by creamy new oak. On the palate, the wine is broad and expansive, with a velvety chassis of tannin, immense depth at the core, and a long, dramatic finish. This is a striking Echézeaux which will turn heads in its youth, but which will reward bottle age with extraordinary complexity and texture.

Healthy dark red. Captivating lift to the aromas of raspberry, redcurrant, tobacco and rose petal. Wonderfully creamy, concentrated, energetic wine, utterly silky and seamless. Seductively sweet but not a bit heavy, offering excellent precision to its thick flavors of dark raspberry and spices. Finishes very long and suave, with substantial firm yet almost creamy tannins.

(this fruit was entirely destemmed): Good dark red, not hugely bright. Wild, reduced aromas of raspberry, soy sauce and dried rose. Creamy, spicy and opulent, showing more energy and verve than the Chapelle-Chambertin despite the fact that this wine has the highest pH among these 2015s. But then this is a cooler site than the Chapelle. This densely packed wine is the most saline of Tremblay's 2015 collection and finishes savory and very long, with the tannins in harmony with the wine's fruit. I picked up a subtle suggestion of tea-smoked duck.

The 2015 Echézeaux du Dessus Grand Cru has a broodier bouquet compared to the Chapelle-Chambertin, reluctantly opening with red berry fruit (raspberry and cranberry) with subtle hints of rose petal. The palate is medium-bodied with a structured, slightly angular opening. This will coalesce, knit together during its élevage with a spicy, saline finish that feels (again) broody, but will surely come out of its shell given sufficient time in bottle.
