Punteggio 96+/100 · Da bere 2025-2055, Neal Martin, Nov 2018

The 2015 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru has a very pure bouquet, with a beacon of red berry fruit, neatly integrated with the oak. There is a nobility here, though perhaps it is a little more understated than I would expect considering the vineyard. The palate is beautifully balanced with a fine bead of acidity but perhaps beginning to close up. Yet there is great structure here, and real drive and grip toward the finish. Bon vin - but give it 10 years at least. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

Tasted blind, the 2015 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses is quite closed, unfurling with extended aeration to reveal a pretty bouquet of wild berries, dark cherries and potpourri, complemented by some deep bass notes of espresso roast and toasty new oak. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, succulent and richly structured, with a deep and unusually tight-knit core, fine but abundant tannins and a long finish. While wines from this site are often charming out of the blocks, this is an Amoureuses that will demand and reward cellaring.

(13.5% alcohol; vinified with 60% whole clusters): Bright dark red. Knockout nose combines black raspberry, blueberry, minerals and musky earth. Wonderfully silky, plush and fine-grained, with its atypical fat nicely leavened by smoky, crunchy minerality. I find this wonderfully rich Les Amoureuses gentler in the early going than the Bonnes-Mares but it may need just as long to reach its peak. This wine sports a pH of 3.76 and just 2.7 grams per liter of acidity, which suggests that the wine's verve comes from the site's light chalky soil and vinification with a significant proportion of the stems.
