Punteggio 91-93/100 · Da bere 2020-2040, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Apr 2017

The 2015 Chambertin Clos de Beze has a very intense bouquet with blackberry, bilberry, iodine and violet scents that feel quite linear, tightly wound at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied, a little stocky on the entry with firm tannin, more masculine than the Charmes-Chambertin with a hint of salted licorice on the finish. This is very fine.

Bright ruby-red. Wild, musky aromas of black raspberry, smoked meat, mocha and earth show a touch of noble reduction. Very ripe and complex, offering terrific sucrosité to its fat, somewhat high-toned oaky flavors of dark berries, chocolate and underbrush. Still, this comes across as less primary than the Clos Vougeot, and missing some of the early energy and mineral spine of the best examples of Clos de Bèze. Is this wine's backbone simply covered by baby fat in the early going? Rovani noted that this vineyard was picked by the grower after the rains. (Incidentally, Remoissenet did not make a Clos Saint-Denis or a Chapelle-Chambertin in 2015.)
