Punteggio 89-92/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Dec 2016

Bright dark red. Nose dominated by soil tones and musky reduction, with dark fruits and violet in the background today. Then broad, plush and sweet in the mouth; more pliant and less primary than the village wines from Vosne-Romanée and Chambolle-Musigny, but still in a juicy style. Most impressive today on the back end, where it spreads out horizontally to coat the palate and linger. This wine is a blend of two parcels, one on the Morey side of the village, not far from the grand crus of Gevrey (which Lécheneaut says brings elegance and early accessibility), and the other from more clay-based soil on the north side of the village, which is typically more masculine and powerful.

(this was once entirely from the lieu-dit Charreux, situated on the north side of Gevrey on the Brochon border but now there is also a proportion of Le Seuvrées included). A distinctly earthy nose is composed of liqueur-like dark currant aromas that are laced with notes of humus, game and plenty of earth character. The rich, powerful and impressively concentrated full-bodied flavors possess excellent delineation on the sappy, mineral-infused, complex and long finish. This is an unusually good Gevrey villages and highly recommended. Dec 2016, www.burghound.com
