Punteggio 89-91/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Dec 2016

(from purchased grapes--"always very dark and with small bunches," according to Barnier): Bright medium red. Less forthcoming on the nose than the village Gevrey, hinting at raspberry, menthol, minerals and clove. Juicy and tightly wound, showing no easy sweetness and dominated in the early going by its firm mineral underpinning. Best today on the long, detailed, firmly tannic finish, which shows a savory complexity and good grip. Not a particularly elegant style, though.

The 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Petite Chapelle has an attractive wild strawberry and raspberry-scented bouquet with some lovely rose petal scents emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple red berry fruit, a fine sense of salinity and a very detailed finish. Not the best known premier cru in Gevrey, yet this is a very commendable expression of the vineyard by the Jadot team.

Tank sample. Pale cherry red. Rich in terms of ripeness but relatively lightweight for a Gevrey. Slightly edgy and chewy but there’s certainly good life here. Very correct, with good tannin quality. (JR)
