Punteggio 16/20 · Julia Harding MW, jancisrobinson.com, Jan 2017

Cask sample. More remontage than pigeage in 2015 for greater finesse. 25-30% new oak. Mid cherry red. Subtle but perfumed dark-red fruit and just a hint of stems (leafy). The dry finesse to the texture also suggests plenty of whole-bunch fermentation (c 50% in 2015, apparently). Elegant and really quite delicate. Juicy on the finish.

The 2015 Gevrey Chambertin Vieilles Vignes includes 55% whole bunch fruit and it was matured in 30% new French oak. It offers bright redcurrant and cranberry scents on the nose that is well defined and offers plenty of freshness and vitality. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, structured in style with more crunchy black fruit here than the aromatics, sous-bois and white pepper towards the finish. This is premier cru in quality—excellent.

(from a mix of vines that average 60+ years of age; the lieux-dits include Platières and Murots). This is aromatically quite similar to the Clos Village though the fruit is slightly denser and that sense of better density is confirmed by the bigger, richer and more concentrated flavors that possess both more power and persistence on the attractively complex finale. This, by contrast, is very Gevrey in style. Dec 2016, www.burghound.com
