The domaine’s ‘garden vineyard’ of 70 year old vines. Deep and silky in the glass, perfumed with meaty, gamey hints. Unctuous and cashmere textured with astonishingly concentrated rich fruit at the core. Deep, complex and powerful but the wonderful energy is so poised, focused and precise that it stays light on its feet. An intense, hugely long finish, dense, frsh and very complete. Village? An astonishing wine and utter bargain.

Cask sample. Deep crimson. Riper and less stemmy than the Gevrey Vieilles Vignes. Some oak spice and sweetness. Firm and dry on the palate, attractive savoury restraint. Very different from the VV, and for the longer term. (JH)
The 2015 Gevrey Chambertin Clos Village from vines just outside the winery includes 50% whole bunch fruit. It has a complex bouquet, much more than 2013 or 2014, with fine sucrosity. The palate is medium-bodied with smooth tannin, elegant in style with pleasing depth, a splash of soy towards the finish that feels long and sensual. Probably best drunk within the first 4-6 years, this is a fine Clos Village.
This village is produced from a plot just behind the Heresztyn-Mazzini estate. The vines are planted in 1960 and in this cuvee 50% whole cluster grapes is used. The nose is very expressive here .. sweet red fruit .. juicy and airy .. spiced with cinnamon and all spice. On the palate rich almost silky – very generous and elegant for a village Gevrey. A very charming and complex wine. Hard to pick a favorite among the village wines – but think this is it in the 2015 vintage at least. Jun 2016, www.winehog.org

Domaine Heresztyn-Mazzini was established in 2012 when Florence Heresztyn took over her family domaine in Gevrey-Chambertin with her husband Simon Mazzini (who originally comes from Champagne).
