Punteggio 17/20 · Da bere 2020-2035, Julia Harding MW, jancisrobinson.com, Jan 2017

Cask sample. Aromatic like the Brûlées but a little more sedate and riper in character. Lovely fruit – aromatic and deep without loss of purity and freshness. Long, too. (JH)

Monopole. Still quite lightweight but with admirable purity of flavour. Red fruits, precise, smooth tannins. Nothing forced. Lip-smacking satisfaction. Super-clean finish. (JR)

The 2015 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Clos des Réas, matured in 60% new oak, has slightly more fruité on the nose compared to the Aux Brûlées at the moment and that means it supports the new oak better, comes across better balanced. The palate is medium-bodied with a little chewiness and sinew on the entry. There is good body here, quite a dense Clos des Réas, albeit with a lot of new oak driving the finish home in lieu of precision or mineralité. Like the Aux Brûlées, I will cross my fingers and hope that the oak will be assimilated with requisite bottle age. We will see.

(a 2.12 ha monopole with vines averaging 35+ years of age). A ripe yet attractively fresh nose combines notes of red currant, spice, herbal tea and a hint of dark pinot liqueur. The vibrant medium weight flavors possess a finer mouth feel if less minerality and muscle, all wrapped in a sleek, delicious, focused and beautifully well-balanced finale. This will probably be accessible on the younger side as most vintages of Clos des Réas generally are. Dec 2016, www.burghound.com
