(vinified with 90% whole clusters): Ruby-red. The aromas of cassis, blackberry, licorice and leather convey strong peppery lift. As deep as the Charmes-Chambertin but a bit more edgy in the early going, with its pepper and spice qualities to the fore. Shows less of the superripeness of the Charmes but a bit more energy. Finishes with serious, fine-grained tannins and excellent rising length. I would not be surprised if this youthfully stunted wine eventually merited a rating at the high end of my projected range.

The 2015 Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru comes from parcels located on limestone soils and comprises three barrels this year with 100% whole bunch fruit. It has a very perfumed and pure bouquet with dark cherries, violets, blackcurrant and cold stone, almost marine aromas. This has excellent precision and seems to soak up that new oak with ease. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, crisp and fresh with good acidity, linear towards the finish, but very precise. This is one of Dugat-Py's strongest offerings in 2015.
80% whole bunch. 100% new oak. On the Morey side. 40-year-old vines. Big pebbles. Thin soils. Very rich and sumptuous on the nose. Round and plump – quite different from the Charmes Chambertin. Lots of flesh and sweetness. But not fat and with sufficient acidity. Really rather gorgeous. Many layers on the end. Really sings and dances. Floral top note. Very long. (JR)
(from a .25 ha parcel and vinified with ~90% stems). Here the taciturn and brooding nose only grudgingly reveals its aromas of the sauvage, earth, plum, cassis and background floral nuances. The big-bodied flavors are tighter and more massive than those of the Charmes though they are also more mineral-driven on the muscular, intense and exceptionally persistent finish.
