Punteggio 94-96/100 · Da bere 2020-2040, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Dec 2016

The 2015 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru comes from vines located just below the 0.07-hectare parcel owned by the Hospices de Beaune. It feels much more backward and sultry compared to the Charmes-Chambertin, though as it unfolds it reveals fine precision and focus. The palate is defined by a silver bead of acidity, very elegant and poised with a mineral-rich finish. It's a shame there is just a single barrel of this - superb. This is the standout from Charloping this year.

(from a 1945 planting in Mazis-Hauts): Bright ruby-red. Exhilarating calcaire lift to the aromas of cassis, blueberry, violet and bitter chocolate. Boasts compelling fruit intensity but the wine's sweetness is leavened by pungent minerality, floral high notes and chalky energy. Much more terroir - than vintage-driven, this racy, sappy wine finishes with noble tannins, rare tension for 2015 and outstanding floral lift.

(from Mazis Hauts). Here the liqueur-like dark berry fruit aromas possess more evident sauvage character that is enhanced by notes of earth, underbrush and humus. There is more size, weight and power to the even more broad-shouldered flavors that possess slightly better complexity on the muscular and sneaky long finish. Dec 2016, www.burghound.com
