FINE+RARE Tasting Note

Ripe, bright red fruit on the nose; raspberry and cranberry with floral touches of white blossom. On the palate the wine is velvety and creamy with a vibrant acidity and high, fine tannins. Finishes long. Oct 2016

Bright medium red. Lovely high-pitched perfume of raspberry, spices and rose petal are given added punch by pungent minerality. Juicy, savory and youthfully folded in on itself, displaying a tight core of dark cherry and spice flavors but no rough edges. In fact, this is sweeter and easier to taste today than the Clos Vougeot. A note of dried flowers adds inner-mouth lift. This was distinctly dark in its fruit character from barrel in late 2016, but today it's redder and more floral than the Clos Vougeot, not to mention subtler and more scented on the aftertaste.

(from Les Rouges du Bas; harvested on September 11 with potential alcohol near 13.5%): Bright medium red. Pungent mineral lift to the black cherry and cassis aromas. At once sweet and penetrating, with brooding black cherry and blackcurrant flavors somewhat leavened by juicy saline minerality; in a distinctly dark-fruit style for Jadot's Echézeaux. Very firmly built but not hard. This very concentrated wine finishes with substantial ripe, building tannins and is likely to need more cellaring than the Clos Vougeot, which is not typical.

Tank sample. Bright crimson. Nose seems more evolved than some, with some meat and two veg on the nose and very smooth tannins. Rather relaxed and glamorous somehow. Just a bit astringent on the end at present. (JR)
