Punteggio 95/100 · Da bere 2025-2042, Eric Guido, Vinous, Apr 2021

The 2013 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Vecchie Vigne takes a considerable amount of time to open up and unfurl from its youthful state. It’s earthy and quite animalistic at first, shaking off musky mineral tones to reveal depths of blackberry, crushed stone and exotic spice. This takes on a much more feminine and lifted feel on the palate, ushering in a pure and vivid display of black cherries contrasted by minty herbs. Tension builds with each passing sip, as the 2013’s zesty acids combine with youthful tannins to create a clenching sensation that lingers through its long and savory finish. Don’t make the mistake of dismissing this lean and well-muscled dancer for a lightweight; all it really needs is some time in the cellar to flesh out and reveal its charms.

Punteggio 18/20 · Da bere 2020-2032, Walter Speller, jancisrobinson.com, May 2019

Concentrated ruby. Lifted, cool, savoury raspberry nose with peppery notes and hints of iron. Taut yet supple with finely chiselled tannins. Elegant and generous at the same time and enormously long. Has loads of potential. (WS)
