(bottled at the end of August): Healthy deep red. Musky aromas of redcurrant, oak and smoky minerality, with a touch of reduction. Delivers good volume and sweetness, but the penetrating raspberry and cranberry flavors display a strong cool-vintage character. This sharply delineated village wine offers a lovely combination of fruity and savory elements. Finishes firmly tannic and quite long.

The 2013 Vosne-Romanée Aux Réas had a pleasant reduction on the nose, a little gaminess creeping in and suffusing the red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with toasty redcurrant and cranberry, interlaced with crisp acidity with an effervescent, slightly chalky finish. This is just a very pleasant Vosne-Romanée that has such exuberance that I would be tempted to broach this in its youth rather than cellar over the long-term.

Not cheap! But notably intense on the nose. A sterling effort if you are looking for a wine that shows much more concentration than most 2013s. No rough edges. Some raciness but very distinctive. Compact and fruity even if short on finesse. (JR)

(this wine from calcaire -rich soil was totally destemmed; the production here was just 18 hectoliters per hectare, according to Liger-Belair): Bright, dark red with ruby highlights. Very rich aromas of raspberry, coffee and bitter chocolate, plus a note of leathery reduction. Pliant and impressively concentrated, showing good mineral tension and freshness to the dark berry and iodine flavors. The long, saline finish saturates the palate. Promises to be an outstanding village wine.
