Note di degustazione
The 2014 Grand Barrail Lamarzelle Figeac (no, not a name that trips off the tongue easily) felt rather raw, perhaps a little green on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with hard and obdurate tannin, a mean and rather pinched Saint Emilion that lacks a sense of flow and cohesion on the metallic finish.

Rose petal, iron, tobacco, red-fleshed fruit and mint give the 2014 Grand Barrail Lamarzelle Figeac its distinctive personality. The wine is aromatic and lifted, but also quite savory in its expression. This is a decidedly exotic style of Saint-Émilion in which the fruit is pushed into the background. The 2014 is pretty, but it is also a bit unusual in its savory, feral expression of Saint-Émilion.
The 2014 Grand Barrail Lamarzelle Figeac presents a distinctly mineral/savory profile to match its big, ample frame. Iron, smoke, tobacco, red cherry pit, game and herbs all make an appearance, but the fruit remains pushed to the background. Today, some angular contours remain.
