Medium red. Sexy aromas of blueberry, raspberry and spices, along with a salty quality. Fat, ripe and creamy in the mouth, showing a sexy subtle saline character. Plush but ultimately classically dry. Rather backward for the vintage, this will need to lose some of its baby fat in order to gain in precision.

The 2014 Gevrey Chambertin Aux Chezeaux, which Jean-Marie told me used to be a Premier Cru prior to the war, has a billowing bouquet of cranberry and red cherry fruit. The palate is succulent on the entry with fleshy strawberry and raspberry, a touch of soy on the back palate, lending fine delineation and sense of energy on the finish. Village cru flirting with premier cru quality? This is seriously good.
South of the village, planted in 1928 just below Mazoyères. 12,000 vines/ha. Mid crimson. Grainy, funky nose with real perfume. Broad and snazzy on the palate. Real charmer with lots of substance. Lots of fine tannins. He drinks this with white meat and his Vieille Vigne with red. (JR)
