The 2014 Enclos Tourmaline is 100% Merlot from a tiny parcel in Peter Kwok’s property located on the plateau of Pomerol, between Chateau Clinet and Chateau Feytit-Clinet. This beauty is a terrific success in the vintage and offers more texture, richness and depth than most. Black cherries, currants, smoke, acacia flowers, and damp earth nuances all emerge from this ripe, gamey, layered, medium to full-bodied Pomerol that has character as well as elegance. It’s already drinking nicely, yet will keep for 15-20 years.

The 2014 Enclos Tourmaline, a new kid on the Pomerol block courtesy of Peter Kwok, comes from a single-hectare parcel of Merlot located slap-bang opposite Château Clinet. It has a refined bouquet with ebullient red cherry and crushed strawberry scents laced with black truffle and sandalwood. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a keen line of acidity, precise with a crescendo of black fruit towards the finish that has great persistence. This has outstanding potential.
A sensual, voluptuous wine, the 2014 Enclos Tourmaline captures all the promise I saw when I tasted it from barrel. Black cherry, plum, menthol, and leather overtones abound in a racy Pomerol endowed with real depth. The 2014 is super-ripe and racy, with all the elements in the right place. Tasted two times.
