Punteggio 89/100 · Da bere 2018-2038, Jeb Dunnuck, Nov 2017

From a tiny estate in Pomerol, not to be confused with Château Saint-Pierre in Saint-Julien, the 2014 Château Saint-Pierre is a high-quality wine offering plenty of black fruits, damp earth, red and black currants and underbrush, medium body, rock-solid balance and an endearing elegance. Drink it over the coming 20 years or so.

The 2014 Saint-Pierre (Pomerol) felt a little broody and sullen on the nose, though eventually I was able to eke out light oyster shell infused black fruit with time. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin, compact and structure, quite masculine, yet falling rather short and abrupt on the finish when you are seeking more.

The 2014 Saint-Pierre (Pomerol) is sumptuous, racy and nicely layered in the glass. Ripe dark cherry, plum, sweet spices and new French oak give the wine its attractive, up-front personality. I would cellar the 2014 for a few years to see if some of the oak integrates a bit further, but overall, this is an early- to medium-term drinker. The blend is 75 % Merlot and 25 % Cabernet Franc.

The 2014 Saint-Pierre is beautifully focused in the glass, with plenty of power and vibrancy in its sweet red stone fruit, wild flowers, new leather, rose petals and mint. I very much like the translucency allied to power here. The blend is 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc.
