Punteggio 92+/100 · Da bere 2022-2032, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2016

Dark red-ruby. Aromas of small wild red fruits, coffee and spices show a strong oak influence. More expressive in the mouth than on the nose, conveying excellent freshness and energy to the flavors of redcurrant, wild strawberry, spices and mocha-coffee torrefaction. Finishes rich and saline, with a repeating note of redcurrant and substantial tannins to support a long life in bottle. Roty's sélection massale of Pinot Fin is located next to Bernard Dugat's holding.

Bright ruby-red. Inky aromas of blackberry, blueberry and violet. Precise and seamless but youthfully folded in on itself, showing a strong torrefaction note of bitter chocolate to go with the dark berries. Very clenched on the finish today but this tactile grand cru possesses terrific underlying sweetness of fruit.

The 2013 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru is located in the lieu-dit of Mazis-Bas, between the vines of Bernard Dugat (Dugat-Py) and Domaine Maume. Matured in 90% new oak it has a fine clarity on the nose, the oak a little prominent, but that will meld together with time. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe black fruit mixed with blueberry, vanilla and a slither of marmalade. This is quite opulent but it remains nicely controlled with a long finish that is in the same style as Bernard Dugat’s Mazis. This is a knockout wine from Roty, a vin de garde that demands considerable cellaring.
