Punteggio 93/100 · Da bere 2030-2055, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Apr 2025

The 2013 Chambertin Grand Cru is another wine that still requires patience, unwinding in the glass with a deep bouquet of red berries, spices and orange zest, followed by a medium to full-bodied, taut but layered palate that's built around tangy acids and plenty of stem tannin. This is concentrated and penetrating, but still very tightly wound.

100-year-old vines! Just 537 sq m. 100% whole bunch. 100% new oak. Aged in a 205-litre cask (even smaller in 2011 and 2012) made especially for him each year thanks to Francois Frères’ computer which even cuts the wood. Blackish crimson. He gets going with the pipette (always takes samples from two casks and blends them in a small goldfish bowl) to ensure no reductive element. Something quite different and heady. Great concentration of meatiness and majesty. Some high-toned mintiness. Much more expressive on the nose than the palate which is all mass and surliness at the moment. Just a great future wine with life but total introspection at the moment, though you certainly don’t need to take anything on trust. You can see all the ingredients here. Almost raw but not quite. There are only 205 liters of 2013 Chambertin Grand Cru this year, mostly whole-bunch fruit. It has some reduction on the nose that makes it difficult to comment here. The palate is very harmonious with smooth, velvety tannins and well-judged acidity. At present it feels quite dense in the mouth, but there is an elegance pervading the powerful finish. This is very refined, perhaps especially for this domaine, and it is endowed with bracing girth and length. Good luck finding one of these gems. Dec 2014, www.robertparker.com
