Punteggio 16.5/20 · Da bere 2025-2037, Jancis Robinson MW, Jan 2019

Tasted blind. Dark lustrous crimson. Black-fruit aromas but not too heavy or worked. Very much Pomerol without being too fat. Just a little rusty-nail character on the end but a good, complete wine. (JR)

I have not had good luck with the 2015 Petit-Village. The first sample was massively tannic and forbidding. A second bottle was marginally better. There, I saw a wine with good up-front appeal but not real depth or persistence to speak of. Needless to say, I liked the 2015 far better from barrel. If the 2015 is anything like the two bottles I tasted, Petit-Village is, sadly, one of the real disappointments of the vintage. This is the first vintage made under the stewardship of new technical director Diana Berrouet-Garcia. The blend is 71% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 9% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Composed of 71% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 9% Cabernet Sauvignon aged for 15 months in barrels, 60% new, the 2015 Petit Village reveals a deep garnet-purple color and gregarious notes of crushed blackberries, crème de cassis and preserved plums with touches of cedar chest, black olives, bay leaves and Marmite toast. The decadently rich, medium to full-bodied palate is superbly supported by a firm frame of grainy tannins and a lively backbone, finishing long and savory.
